An Engaging Idea: A Guide to Finding Your Dream Ring

As your love grows and marriage is on the horizon, engagement rings are imagined, designed, or discovered. Though the sea of rings is infinite, one will inevitably stand out above all the others and become “the one.” Here are some engagement ring fashions that have continued to resonate over time.

Stacking fashion rings aren’t new, but in the bridal space it’s a trend that has gained momentum. A beautiful engagement ring begins the journey of this stacked look. When searching for an engagement ring, consider a classic solitaire in a shape you desire. Alternatively, a sparkling halo with a gorgeous pavé band is eye-catching as well as timeless. Or slip back to times past with intricate filigree, beadwork, or engravings on the band that will stand out among the throng like designs by Tacori and Verragio.

Should you decide that the stacked look is right for you, take care that the diamond is set in such a way that other bands that sit beneath it create a combination that is both attractive and comfortable. When selecting your wedding band, consider whether the style will work with other rings over time. You will want to add pieces which mark commemorative occasions, such as anniversaries, birthdays, the birth of your children, or just periodic celebrations of your love. Whatever you choose, your rings should be a reflection of your love and spark memories of the moments shared throughout your life.

Many of today’s designers are taking advantage of laser-cutting technology to enhance engagement rings. These rings appear to be one large diamond, but don’t let the look fool you! These diamond cluster rings are actually smaller diamonds that are precision cut to fit together perfectly to give the illusion of one large stone. These cluster rings are available in most stone shapes and are very difficult to discern from the classic single-stone engagement ring. Therefore, consider this style if you want extreme brilliance at a lower cost than a traditional ring.

Join us at one of the four Padis Jewelry locations to view fine designers such as Tacori, Verragio and Forevermark and find the ring that speaks to you in a comfortable non-commissioned shopping environment. After all, you’ve already fallen in love with your partner, why shouldn’t you fall in love with a ring that reflects and symbolizes that love?

Our Customer Say it Best!

While we say it over and over again, it is never as meaningful as when one of our customers takes the time to let everyone know what Padis Jewelry offers.  As one recent reviewer writes, Padis has “reasonable prices, extensive knowledge, and quality rings.”  She explains you will find everything you could ever want and need in one place, and adds, “I'll never go anywhere else for all of my jewelry needs.”

A trip to the Padis Gift Center, elicited the following comments from another satisfied customer.  “This place is huge and beautiful with diamonds and jewels everywhere. I felt like I was in the cave in Aladdin filed with treasures.”  She was pleased to find a perfect Furrer Jacot rose gold band for her husband, which match her rose gold rings.

Over and over again, Padis customers rave about the great customer service they receive.  One man recently wrote, “All of our encounters with the staff at Padis were exceptional.  We had shopped around at a few jewelry stores, boutiques and custom designers.  My wife and I are not really jewelry folks, but we fell in love with the selection of designers here.   I wish that I had shopped a little earlier for my bands, but they were able to deliver on time for our special day.”  He also says his jewelry consultant was exceptionally thoughtful and really took care of them throughout the entire process.

Other reviewers expressed thanks that their jewelry consultant took the time to teach them about the 4Cs of buying diamonds.  Many also commented on how patient their consultant was in helping them find the “perfect ring.”  If you would like to have our professional jewelry consultants help you find an engagement ring or wedding bands, please visit our website for contact information.

5 Wedding Band Tricks to Make Your Engagement Ring Look Bigger

Since this is a safe space when it comes to all things bridal, it's totally OK to admit that sometimes, size does matter (even if just for one random day, when you let yourself daydream what it would feel like to wear Kim Kardashian's crazy-huge rock). When you start to think about what sort of wedding band you want to wear alongside your engagement ring, it quickly becomes apparent that there are a ton of options. Still, not everything is going to actually make your engagement diamond appear larger.

To help, we broke down what factors will make bands extra-flattering to your engagement diamond.

Consider colored stones.

Classic diamonds are the most popular choice for wedding rings, but colored stones are gaining in popularity. They'll definitely make a diamond pop, which can add to the overall look and help trick the eye into thinking the center stone appears bigger.. If you don't want to break with tradition too dramatically, look for pale colors like light pinks, blues, and greens. They'll add something different without being too shocking.

Consider multiple bands.

If you have a smaller diamond in your engagement ring, multiple bands are a fun way to add style and uniqueness to your ring. You can also consider wearing your engagement ring on your right hand post-wedding, keeping only your new band on the left, is another surefire way to make sure it's not overpowered by the new bling.

Look for a matched set.

Specially crafted bridal sets have fallen out of style a bit, but they're actually designed to show off your engagement ring, making them a wise choice. "Curved wedding bands designed to sit with a specific engagement ring will highlight the ring very nicely. They're typically made to sit right under the setting of your engagement ring, so it won't take away from the center stone."

Clean it.

Regular cleanings will help keep diamonds sparkling, making it pop more. The more sparkly and white it is, the more it'll stick out on your hand, helping to make it appear bigger. Aim for having your pieces professionally cleaned a few times a year, though intricate settings can collect dirt easier, requiring more frequent sudsing.

Why Buy Forevermark Diamonds?

If you are looking for a high quality diamond, you cannot go wrong purchasing a Forevermark diamond.  The De Beers Group of Companies has a 125 year history of diamond expertise and sells some of the world’s most stunning diamonds.  In addition every Forevermark diamond must not only meet the company’s standards for quality and beauty but be responsibly sourced.  They proudly state that less than one percent of the world’s diamonds meet Forevermark’s standard of excellence, which goes far beyond the 4Cs.

Before it gets a Forevermark inscription, a diamond goes through a rigorous inspection. The company also uses an innovative technology to lightly inscribe (1/20th of a micron deep) the diamond’s unique identification number, which is only visible with 50 X magnification.  The number is used to register the diamond under your name.

Another reason to buy a Forevermark diamond is the assurance that it comes from a company as committed to providing the world with diamonds as it is to doing it with integrity.  Going well beyond the international Kimberly Process Certification Scheme to identify conflict free diamonds, Forevermark mines comply with strict political, financial, social and environmental requirements.  They state “As part of our CSR (corporate social responsibility), we ensure that all employees and communities from diamond producing areas benefit from legal, safe and responsible business practices.”

Padis Jewelry is proud to sell Forevermark diamonds including the Forevermark Tribute™ Collection.  Please contact us to set up a visit to one of our three showrooms in San Francisco or our store in St. Helena for Forevermark diamonds as well as other luxury brands including Tacori, Jeff Cooper Designs, Verragio, Henri Daussi, Ritani, Demarco, Simon G., Scott Kay, and many more.

Queen Mary’s Diamond Bandeau Tiara

As one of the estimated 29 million people who watched the royal wedding between Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, we were curious about the diamond tiara worn by Meghan on the big day.  Known as the Queen Mary’s Diamond Bandeau, the tiara was loaned to the bride from Queen Elizabeth.

The tiara originally belonged to Queen Mary, who was married to King George V and Queen Elizabeth’s grandmother. Queen Mary commissioned the platinum bandeau tiara in 1932 to be designed around the detachable center brooch.  The brooch was a gift to Mary in 1893 from the Country of Lincoln upon her marriage to then-Prince George, Duke of York.  The tiara was bequeathed to Queen Elizabeth upon Mary’s death in 1953.

The stunning central brooch is done in a classic style and features a large brilliant diamond in the center, which is surrounded by nine brilliant diamonds.  The flexible band is made up of “eleven sections, pierced with interlaced ovals and pavé set with large and small brilliant diamonds.”  Originally the piece was known as the Filgree Tiara and was worn by Queen Mary for less formal events such as Gala performances in the later years of her life.  Up until Meghan Markle beautifully donned the delicate tiara on her wedding day, it had not been seen in public for more than 60 years.

Padis Jewelry has an extensive selection of exquisite loose diamonds, engagement rings and other fine jewelry, and while our collection does not include tiaras, we have plenty of pieces to satisfy our most discerning customers.  Please visit our website to browse our online pieces and then set up an appointment to come to our San Francisco showrooms.   If you are planning a trip to Napa Valley this summer, be sure to visit our Padis Romance store in beautiful St. Helena.

Buy Conflict Free Diamonds at Padis

The Knot, one of the nation’s largest sources for wedding news and inspiration, tells shoppers to make sure they do their homework before buying a diamond to ensure it is a conflict free diamond.  In order to ask the right questions, you need to know the facts.  In 2002, the UN created a system to monitor the trade of rough diamonds and to eradicate conflict diamonds from the world’s diamond supply. The Kimberley Process Certification Scheme was adopted in 2003 and “outlines the regulations and requirements countries must follow to make sure a diamond is mined and shipped in a humane, legitimate way.”

Conflict free diamonds are defined as stones that do not finance illegal activities including unethical working environments or violence by rebels to undermine legitimate government.   All international shipments of rough diamonds that meet the regulations are shipped in tamper resistant containers with a Kimberley Process certificate seal.

When you shop for diamonds, your jeweler should be able to tell you the diamond’s source and provide the diamond's System of Warranties statement.  If they are unable to do so, it is a sign that the stone may not be conflict free.  Canadian diamond mines have a reputation for environmental and responsible sourcing as do diamonds from Russia, Australia and many African countries.

As a family-owned business, reputation and integrity is important to us, which is why Padis Jewelry is committed to only selling conflict free diamonds.  You have our guarantee that we will only deal with suppliers who adhere to strict labor and environmental standards and can demonstrate a complete chain of custody for their gemstones.

Padis also offers a vast selection of loose diamonds and is San Francisco’s exclusive retailer for many luxury jewelry brands.  Please contact us to arrange a visit to one of our three San Francisco showrooms or visit the Padis Romance store on your next trip to Napa Valley’s St. Helena.

Padis – A Name You Can Trust

Padis Jewelry is a family-owned business with a connection to the jewelry industry that goes all the way back to the founder, Steve Padis’ college days at the University of California in Berkeley, CA.  Steve got his start in the industry by stringing beads, which grew into creating sterling silver, turquoise, and gold chain jewelry after graduation.  Shortly thereafter, through contacts in the industry, Steve met Judy, his life-long partner both in marriage and business.

By 1974, Steve’s passion for precious metals and diamonds lead to the inception of the Steve Padis Jewelry brand.  The brand began the family’s decades-long love affair for exquisite diamonds, gems and fine jewelry and established the Padis name as one of the best jewelers in San Francisco.  Now 40 years later, Padis Jewelry is still owned and operated by Steve, his wife Judy and daughter, Alexis and consists of three San Francisco showrooms and a store in St. Helena, CA.

Our three showrooms in the city are located at The Jewelry Center on Utah Street.  The Gift Center and The Padis Designer Galleria are on Brannan Street.  Here, you will discover a huge collection of exquisite loose diamonds (we have approximately 10,000 stones in our inventory) and the world’s finest jewelry from some of the most sought-after designers.   To visit our showrooms, we ask that you set up an appointment, which can be easily done with a phone call or using our convenient online form.

Our other store is located in northern California’s legendary wine country, in beautiful St. Helena in the Napa Valley.  Along with stunning designer jewelry and watches from the world’s most desirable designers and watchmakers as well as certified loose diamonds, we also are a unique gift store.    Please visit our website to learn more about Padis Jewelry and to set up an appointment to see firsthand our beautiful collection.

Diamonds are Still the Most Popular Choice for Engagement Rings

The first ever diamond engagement ring is believed to have been commissioned by the Archduke Maximillian of Austria in 1477 for his betrothed, Mary of Burgundy.  The ring was designed in the shape of an “M,” and fashioned from a series of thin, flat diamonds.  The European aristocracy and nobility soon followed suit by giving diamond rings to their intended brides.

Today it is estimated that nearly three-quarters of first-time American brides receive a diamond engagement ring.  A 2014 report from Bain & Company suggests that “China, India and the U.S. will drive the majority of growth in diamond-jewelry consumption over the next decade, in part because of the growing interest in diamond engagement rings in India and China, and a stable interest in the U.S.” In 2016, The Knot’s annual Real Weddings Study found the average cost of an engagement ring was $6,163.

If you want to save some money on the cost of an engagement ring, the American Gem Society (AGS) recommends that you do not sacrifice the cut of the diamond as that is what attributes to the diamond’s brilliance.  Rather they say get the “best cut you can afford, but maybe skimp a bit on clarity and color if you need; slight inclusions (or flaws) and faint coloration will not be visible just by looking at the diamond, and will result in substantial savings.”

At Padis Jewelry we not only carry a large selection of engagement rings from many of the industry’s top luxury brands but also have an inventory of more than 10,000 loose diamonds on hand at any one time.  Moreover we are committed to only buying and selling conflict free diamonds.  Please visit our website to learn more about Padis Jewelry.
