Meet the Padis Family

Since 1974, Padis Jewelry has been a family-owned business that got its start with the inception of the Steve Padis Jewelry brand.  Now more than 40 years later, we are still owned and operated by Steve along with his wife, Judy, and daughter, Alexis.

Steve Padis’ career as a jeweler started on the streets of Berkeley, CA where he sold beads he had strung. Steve then started creating sterling silver, turquoise and gold chain jewelry.  He met Judy soon after through contacts in the jewelry business. 

The Steve Padis Jewelry brand was the beginning of the family’s decades-long passion for precious metals and diamonds, and the start of establishing Padis Jewelry as one of the finest jewelers in San Francisco.  We now have three showrooms in the city - one at The Jewelry Center and one at The Gift Center as well as The Padis Designer Galleria at the Gift Center.  Our other store is in beautiful St. Helena in Napa Valley. 

Along with selling some of the area’s finest collection of jewelry, we also offer expert jewelry repair services by highly trained specialists who can restore and repair almost any piece of jewelry.  Our jewelers can rejuvenate a treasured family heirloom or adeptly handle more everyday needs such as cleaning and maintenance, mounting/remounting, prong tipping or replacement, ring sizing, and much more.  In addition we do watch repairs as well as routine battery and band replacements.

As part of our promise to provide the highest quality of service to our customers, Padis Jewelry has two GIA Graduate Gemologists on staff at all times.  So that being said, how will a GIA Graduate Gemologist improve your shopping experience? 

To answer that question, we will start with a little background on the GIA.  According to the GIA’s (Gemological Institute of America Inc.) website, the institute was established in 1931 and is the “world’s foremost authority on diamonds, colored stones, and pearls.”  It operates as a nonprofit institute and is recognized as a leading source of knowledge, standards, and education in gems and jewelry.  In the 1940’s, the GIA established the “4Cs” (color, clarity, cut, and carat weight) as well as the International Diamond Grading System™, both of which are still the standards used today. 

The GIA Graduate Gemologist program represents the most prestigious credential in the industry, and all participants receive comprehensive information regarding diamonds and colored stones.  During the course, individuals are introduced to both technical and practical skills including the 4Cs, the International Diamond Grading System, and the Colored Stone Grading System.    

As GIA Graduate Gemologists, our jewelers had the opportunity to experience first-hand how the GIA grading system and the 4Cs are used to accurately rate the value of diamonds.   In addition they were taught how to use up-to-the-date gemological equipment and procedures in order to identify and grade different types of gemstones. 

By having such knowledgeable consultants as a part of our non-commissioned sales staff, you will receive reliable, educated information about the stones you are buying.  Furthermore, all of our certified loose diamonds over 0.40 carats come with an independent grading report that assesses the stone’s overall quality and authenticity.
