In Padis Jewelry’s enormous inventory
of exquisite
diamonds (we have over 10,000 loose diamonds at any one time); all
of the diamonds we sell larger than 0.40 carats come with a report from an
accredited, independent laboratory. Moreover
our diamonds are certified by the most trusted laboratories in the country such
as the U.S. divisions of AGS, Forevermark,
GIA and EGL USA.
It is true that buying a comparable-sized
certified diamond is a little bit more expensive than an uncertified stone but it
gives you the assurance that the quality of the diamond is as described by the
jeweler. The higher price is due to the
cost of the certification process.
To put together the report, specially
trained gemologists use high-powered microscopes and other sensitive
instruments to create a detailed blueprint of the stone’s quality
characteristics. The report will also
include information on whether the stone was treated or enhanced to improve its
color or clarity. In addition to the technical
measurements and evaluations of the 4Cs, you typically get a diagram of the
stone’s inclusions as well as views of the top and sides of the
diamond. Many certification reports also
have a chart that details the weight, color grade, cuts, and angles of the
stone.
The certificate should stay with the
diamond for life. Also keep in mind that
while the report is not an appraisal, if you do plan to insure a costly
diamond, your insurer may require the diamond to be certified in addition to
being appraised. Please visit our
website and take a look at our “Education” section to learn more about the 4Cs
of diamond buying. We also have lots of tips
to guide your decision. After that, we
encourage you to set up an appointment to view our
beautiful collection of diamonds and gemstones in person.
